Beverage containers are accepted in your recycling container.

Prep containers for recycling

• Empty all contents from beverage containers.
• Do NOT flatten or crush beverage containers. 
• Always keep labels on beverage containers to ensure CRV redemption.
• Do not stuff anything inside the beverage container! This can render it not recyclable. 
• Athens accepts broken glass. Please place it in the recycle container.

How to handle bottle caps

Bottle caps can be left on beverage containers. However, to help with the recycling process, please follow the instructions below:

• Plastic bottle + plastic cap = keep on container
• Glass bottle + metal cap = remove metal cap and place both in recycling
• Glass bottle + plastic cap = remove plastic cap and place in trash, recycle glass bottle
• Metal bottle + metal cap = remove metal cap and place both in recycling
