Most plastic deodorant tubes are made from #2 plastic (HDPE),#4 plastic (LDPE), or plastic #5 (PP), but materials may vary by brand.

Athens Services recycles plastics #1 PET bottles and clamshells#2 HDPE, and #5 PP.

To identify your products’ plastic type, look for the resin number inside the chasing arrows, usually located on the bottom of the item. The recycling symbol does not indicate if the product is recyclable or not.

  • Refillable deodorant tubes made from metal 
  • Deodorant bars or creams
  • Deodorant in packaging made from paperboard

No Caps or Balls

The plastic used to make the balls and the caps is usually different from the actual bottle, so no matter what you do with the bottle, always put the caps and balls in the trash. If you can’t remove the ball, toss the entire container in the trash.
