Wreaths Trash Organics In order to put plant matter from wreaths in the organics container, all non-plant material must first be removed. This includes any ornaments, plastic decorations, and wireframing. If it’s too dangerous or difficult to remove all of the wiring, place the wreath in the trash. If the wreath or its plant-based decorations have been sprayed with glitter, paint, a protective plastic, or a waxy coating, please place it in the trash. If you do not subscribe to an organics collection, please place wreaths in the trash container. Artificial wreaths and wreaths with flocking or fire retardants are NOT recyclable. These items should be placed in the trash container. If still usable, please donate. Visit Athens’ Material Reuse page for ideas. Artificial Wreaths Artificial wreaths should not be recycled. Donate them or throw them away if you’re not planning to reuse them. Remove All Ornaments, Lights and Tinsel Before disposal of live wreaths, make sure they are free of all ornaments, lights and tinsel. Too Much Wire? Throw Away If it’s too dangerous or difficult to remove all of the wiring, toss the wreath in the trash. Wiring is not biodegradable, so it cannot be recycled with live wreaths as green waste.
