It is illegal to place Electronic Waste (e-waste) in any collection container. The State of California provides a list of banned materials from the landfill that require special drop off.

What Is Considered E-Waste?
E-waste is anything that plugs into an electrical outlet, uses bulbs or batteries and/or contains electronic circuit board or wiring.

Consider Donation
If the item is still usable, please donate. Visit Athens’ Material Reuse page for ideas.

Repair, Don’t Replace!
Instead of buying new, support local businesses by having them repair and refurbish broken items. Search for repair options in your area.

City Specific Collection Options
Please check with your city page (residential or commercial) to confirm if addtional options are available, such as home collection, drop-off locations, and/or events. (These options vary per city.)

E-Waste Drop-Off
Your city or county may offer e-waste drop-off sites and collection events.
– Los Angeles County: S.A.F.E. Collection Centers and events
– Riverside County
San Bernardino County
– Ventura County

Bulky Item Collection
Large items such as appliances, TVs, or air conditioners can be collected as a bulky item. Please check with your city page for collection options (residential or commercial). Schedule a bulky item pickup by placing an order online or calling Athens Customer Service Department at 888-336-6100.
